Well, this is sad. Today marks the beginning of our last day
here in Juan Les Pins and my final week in France. What an incredible ride it
has been though, and man has it flown by. I woke up this morning and ventured
to the local laundry mat (round two) but this time alone to try to get some
work done while my clothes washed. Sadly, the Wi-Fi at the laundry mat still
doesn't work, but luckily I was able to knock out some writing on Word.
At around 3 o’clock we decided to hop on a train to go to
Monaco for the evening. It was fun playing tour guide again for some of my new
friends around my old stomping grounds. After a 45 minute train ride we arrived
and made our way first to the Palais on the Roché. We hiked up it, which
resulted in exhaustion, even though it really and truly isn’t that bad, it was
just very hot and humid. This is when we decided maybe we should just invest in
a day pass for the local bus in order to see the rest of Monaco without hastle.
So we did, and of course after buying our passes in a machine we hop on the bus
and it rejects them. The drivers are nice though, so they let us stay on. But
how odd that all of our passes were faulty. We hoped off the bus at the
Carrefour stop in Fontvieille because some of the guys wanted to see the old
car museum. Sadly, it closed at 5:30 PM and at this point it was 5:40 PM... So
we opted for trying the European McDonalds experience. Our meals came with
Heineken, how strange yet cool, and everything seemed less greasy. Overall it
was better than American McDonalds but I still don’t care too much for
McDonalds as a whole. Then we wandered through Fontvieille to get to the
Princess Grace Rose Garden. I love it there, it is just so beautiful and
breathtakingly quiet. You don’t feel like you’re in the center of a country.
The boys wanted to see the Casino and Sierra wanted to see the Japanese
Gardens, so we took a bus towards the other end of town… I mean country. This
time our passes worked on the bus, thank God. So, we hopped off at the Office
De Tourisme and wandered down to the Casino. Peaking into Ferraris we noticed
one had a can of Axe inside, I guess real people do own these flashy cars?
Sadly enough, the Japanese Gardens had just closed when we arrived, but it
worked in our favor in terms of catching the 8:40 PM train back to JLP.
Now we are finishing up some of our group projects and
getting ready for classes to start back tomorrow. I truly can not believe in 4
short days I’ll be heading back to the States…
Xo,
Shan
